Cabinet Type Drum Filter
Installing drum filters is necessary for a successful RAS operation. Drum filter can remove suspended solids in RAS to increase the efficiency of nitrification in the biofilter. Although nitrobacteria require organic compounds to grow and colonize the bio-media, excessive organic compounds lead to the overgrowth of digestive bacteria, which grows faster than nitrification bacteria and competing for the space in the bio-media. Consequently, the efficiency of biofilter in the system will be negatively affected, for example, when the ratio of COD to ammonia-nitrogen larger than 2.7, the ammonia removal rate is reduced to 30%. The experiment has shown that the NO3-N average concentration between the inlet and outlet of the biofilter is larger than 0.4 mg/L with the presence of the drum filter, however, the NO3-N average concentration is smaller than 0.1 mg/L without the presence of the drum filter. Thus, drum filters can contribute greatly to improve the water quality in RAS. Furthermore, drum filters also possess huge beneficiary to lower the environmental impact of aquaculture outlet water and saving water resources.

Drum filters are equipment that uses a rotating drum to screen out waste. The rotating drum is attached with screens, when the drum filter is working, 2/5 of the screens are submerged in water, the water being treated enters the drum according to the axial direction, and leaving the drum through the screens, meanwhile, the suspended solids, fibers, and paper pulps are intercepted in the inner side of the screen. When the suspended solids, fibers, and paper pulps are rotated to the top of the filter, they are flushed by the backwash water to the wastewater discharging channel, so the liquid and solids are separated. The backwash is controlled through a timer or water level sensor, and the filter being filtered flows back to the system to be reused. The drum rotation is driven by the electric motor, and the whole equipment is made of plastic, which is anti-corrosive. The screen material is nylon, and the mesh size ranges from 80 (180 microns) to 300 (48 microns). Other important parameters are: 1. 1-3 rotations/min; 2. Flow rate is 10-500m3/h; 3. Backwashing water pressure is 0.2-0.3MPa; 4. Headloss about 0.5m
Recoil Effect

When trapped in the filter impurities are brought to the upper part of the drum, is outside the screen backwash water will flow out into the sewage tank to achieve solid and liquid phases are separated by a timer or backwash liquid level sensor control. Filtered water is returned to the pool and reused. Microfiltration driven by hydraulic rotary machine, continuous automatic operation.
